Back in 2020, while we were all hiding from Covid 19, the regulations around leisure and commercial drone flying in Europe changed. The new EU Regulations 2019/947 and 2019/945 set out the framework for the safe operation of civil drones in the skies over Europe. This was welcome in many ways as it has made some aspects of drone flying simpler. However, for commercial drone flight, the rules all changed and I had to go back to school. I re-sat my A1/A3 exam with the IAA and then sat a course with Survey Drones Ireland to qualify me in the A2 Open Category.
This all means that I am again insured and licensed to fly commercially under various conditions for commercial projects in Ireland and across the EU.
While on a break in France during the later part of 2022, I got to try out my new DJI Mini 3 Pro in the forests near Blois.
Drone videography is not the answer for every communication. But it can add an extra dimension to commercial video projects. Have look at the two videos. I shot both for fun. For the Blois Forest shoot, I was aiming for a sense of wonder. While in the Killary Fjord shoot, I was getting into a calming and peaceful mood and reflecting the “Irishness” of the locations through sound design.
The music is picked from the Epidemic Sound commercial library. All the graphics were developed by myself in Apple Motion.
I hope you like them.
